At Sea Salt Sweets, we make every treat from scratch—just like you would at home (if you had a commercial oven, an early wake-up call, and a sprinkle of sea breeze). But today, we’re cracking open our recipe vault to share something special: our founder Reily’s favorite at-home sweet.
🍫 Salted Brown Butter Chocolate Chip Cookies
You’ve seen them in our case. You may have even devoured one before you got to your car. They’re soft, chewy, golden on the edges, and perfectly balanced with that magical sprinkle of flaky sea salt on top.
And now? You can make them at home.
Because we believe the best things in life are meant to be shared.
🛒 Ingredients:
- 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter
- 1 1/2 cups light brown sugar, packed
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 2 tsp vanilla extract
- 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 1/2 tsp baking powder
- 1 tsp sea salt (plus more for sprinkling)
- 2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chunks or chips
- Optional: 1/2 tsp espresso powder (for that “can’t-stop-eating-these” flavor)
🔥 Instructions:
- Brown the Butter
In a saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat, stirring frequently. Once it starts to foam and smell nutty (about 5–7 minutes), remove it from heat. Let it cool slightly. - Mix the Dough
In a large bowl, combine the browned butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar. Mix until smooth. Add eggs one at a time, then vanilla. - Add Dry Ingredients
In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt. Slowly mix dry ingredients into the wet. Fold in the chocolate chips. Chill the dough for at least 30 minutes. - Scoop & Bake
Preheat oven to 350°F. Scoop dough onto a parchment-lined baking sheet. Bake 10–12 minutes or until golden brown around the edges but soft in the center. - Sprinkle + Cool
As soon as they come out of the oven, sprinkle a little flaky sea salt on top. Let cool slightly (if you can wait).
💬 A Note from Reily:
“This is the cookie I bake when friends come over, when it’s rainy outside, or when I just need a little reminder of why I love what I do. It’s simple, it’s nostalgic, and it never lasts more than a day in my house.”
